Day 62:

Local Farwest (future Olympians) dual slalom race can be seen in this picture.

We are shaping up for a week of great weather (snow!). 70-100mph winds are predicted over the ridges over the next few days.

Sixty 1

Day 61:

The Park Rat lives again!

I have been wondering about why a select few towers have been painted white. I bet you a beer you could never guess!

Six Zero

Day 60:

Caution: They're making a come back, the 80's One Piece Ski Suit! Call Mr. Blackwell Stat! I saw at least four today. These two seemed to be celebrating their joint One Piece decision.

Milestone 59

Day 59:

Represents the milestone for the most days of skiing in one season. 41 more to hit my goal but nice to know I have beat my previous best.

The view of lower Sugarbowl, a mid-week holiday parking lot and the fun jumps in the park can be seen in this picture.

Day 58:

If you want fresh snow 3 days after a holiday weekend there is only one way to get it..... Hike! Let the burning commence. Hiked up the saddle of Mt. Judah. Fresh tracks and sunshine. Nice way to spend the afternoon.

Day Five Seven brought 22"of fresh, Yahoo! It was also the Holiday weekend , Boohoo!

Solution: Homewood!

Brenda is seen here in the knee deep fresh stuff. It was by far the lightest, fluffiest and driest snow we have had all year. It was also the coldest daytime temps we have seen all year but very tolerable at about 20*.

Homewood is known for the crowded slopes and poor views as you can see in these pictures ;-)

Chad made the 4 hour wagon train trek from the flatlands to enjoy the great views at Homewood.

My Declaration of Independence

Day 56 (the number of men who signed the declaration):
The fresh stuff is coming down!

Brenda on Roller's pass.

Sequence shot of Brenda.

Double Nickel

Day 55:

You can see many things on the mountain but none as exciting as the Yeti!! Today Sugarbowl was on high alert for Yeti's. You can never be too careful... Remember, "safety never takes a vacation"!

Car 54, Where are you?

I took the car to hit the slopes today on a stormy day 54.

Unless you like cold, windy, stormy days then you didn't miss much.

Fifty Tree

Day 53: Sunny and windy conditions today. The wind is great news of a change in the weather pattern. We are expecting snow every day for the next 6 days! Just in time.

The best snow has been in the sun or stashed deep in the trees.

The view from the top of Sugarbowl is pretty cool. The Granite Chief Wilderness can be seen in the distant center of this stitched panoramic photo.

52nd St.

Day 52: Another spring like sunny day.

It was great to have Brenda hit the slopes with me today :-)

I rode the new Twin Tips today. They really like to carve big turns in the crud.

This pesky rock got in the way of my big turns today and Brenda caught some nice pictures of it.

51 (50)

Day 51: Some might accuse me of being 5150 (5150 is a section of California Welfare and Institutions Code which deals with involuntary confinement of a person for the purposes of a psychiatric evaluation.)

I say it's just a great day out and the battery on the CR needs charging :-)

Hawaii Five-0

Day 50! Another blazing sunny day. Skied with Ivan and Alex today.

Ivan wears many hats at the Sugarbowl, including Ski Instructor,
Tuner Extraordinaire, Bartender and Courvoisier Drinker (see Ladies Man).

I'm told Alex is amongst the upper echelon of Palm Readers
and part-time comedian.

Of course neither of them are no where near as good looking as yours truly but I must say they can both rip some turns! :-)

49er

Day 49: Skied with Richard and Melanie today. Had a great time!

Day 48: Fast & Furious

The moon over Judah on another sunny day.

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

Sunblock SPF 47

Day 47: Bright and Sunny. No crowds whatsoever :-)

A line of Judah hikers can be seen making the Sherpa like pilgrimage to the holy fresh tracks land.

Apparently Tony is a "tagger" as I did not know he left his mark on the Sugarbowl chair when I was not looking.

XLVI

When in Rome: Day 46

The view from Mt.Disney along the Palisades and to Mt. Lincoln.

Palisades is by far the steepest run at Sugarbowl.

There is a pretty good chance you will need the services of Gus and Daisy if you ski it during avalanche conditions.

Check out Gus and Daisy's dog house atop Mt. Disney: Aka "Ski Patrol Shack"

.45 Caliber

Day 45: Good news: A beautiful, sunny day. Bad news: Sunday crowds.

New skiis today: Rossignol Scratch BC. Not the best day by a long shot to be on these boards but I could not resist getting to know them. I can't wait for another Powder day to point these down the mountain.

Hit the park on the new twin tips today.

The view from Old Hwy 40 to Donner was very nice today :-)

Just a couple of weeks ago you could ski this face.

Day 44: Hallelujah, yesterdays water is gone! Today was very Spring like with warm temps, soft snow and raccoon Eye Sunshine.

The Superpipe is being groomed for a competition on Sunday. It's getting pretty big!

The Cat that grooms the Superpipe is very cool.

What a difference a day can make...

Day 43: A warm storm is rolling through and brought with it a bunch of unwelcome RAIN :-(

Yesterday the trees were covered with fresh snow and the run home (seen here) was looking ready to be conquered again.

Today it felt like there was vacuum cleaners on the bottom of my skiis. The tuner at the "Chief" shared an old US ski team trick for super wet snow..... A bar of Dove Soap! Next time you see me on the slopes on a wet day you can bet I will have one with me, not for the shower but for the anti-vacuum effect.

4T2

An overnight storm brought fresh snow to Donner Lake.

Tony readies his gear for a day at Mt. Rose.

Tony and Jeff (Tony's Brother in-law) getting ready to hit the powder

Mt. Rose has some great expert terrain. Tony and I trekked off piste to Wildcard in search of the deep stuff. Tony was skiing great and really ripped it up today!

The Chutes at Mt. Rose may be some of the steepest runs in all of Tahoe. Tony and I hit "El Cap", the steepest of all the Chutes. It was great!

Mt. Rose has a great terrain park. Tony caught me airing it out.
