81 Sun Day
A sneak peak of Spring made for a good opportunity to charge the battery on the CR & enjoy front row parking on a busy Sunday at Sugarbowl

A busy weekend is one of the few times you will see the old double chair "Crows Nest" running at Sugarbowl (see Sugarbowl cost cutting). The slow ride up the less traveled is not such a bad thing. On this ride we only stopped 3 times for mechanical :-)
Around the Mountain in 80 Days!
Saturday at Alpine Meadows with Brenda, Melanie & Richard. Skiing off Lakeview to Ward Creek Road, Exploring the powder off Promise Land to Subway Chair and making the hike up High Traverse to ski upper Sherwood made for a great day!

Another great powder day!
Brenda and Jason having fun in the powder!
The snow has been falling for a few days straight and the powder totals have been building up. Our local Hwy 40 shortcut to the mountain has been closed. Jason and I decided to enjoy the road closure by making a downhill run home down Hwy 40. The Hwy appears quite steep and twisty when making the daily drive. However when you pile 3' of fresh snow on the highway and attempt to ski down it turns out there is not enough vertical/gravity to build any momentum thus we enjoyed a 3 1/2 mile trek (see push, step, walk, climb, sweat, bonk) from the top closed gate to beyond the bottom closed gate where our ride home awaited us. At times there was chest deep powder to navigate, recent avalanche activity and what seemed like the longest 3 1/2 mile road I can remember. We began our trek at about 4:30 and finished under the night sky at about 7:30. Jason and I have considered this box checked and see no need to attempt the Hwy 40 downhill any time soon.

Josh and Jenn got a "Honeymooner VIP" ride in the Snowcat as Brenda waves goodbye

We bumped into the Sugarbowl Founders while wandering the hallways of the old lodge. Hannes Schroll is in the white sweater, Wellington Henderson is wearing the suit, Jerome Hill is on the far right looking out to space and Bill Klein is in the black sweater on the left.

'67 = A Great Year and Awesome Day!
Without a doubt the best conditions we have seen all year. Dry, Fluffy and Deep.

The best conditions were found by making the hike up "High Traverse". The view and the cornices were both spectacular.

On the top of "High Traverse" we got to watch the Telemark competition drop into a section of very steep chutes. These pin heads really rock.

The view of Lake Tahoe from the top of "High Traverse" isn't bad either.

Steve is doing his best "Max Schopfer" impression "Experts Only".

Some say "Be Like Mike" and I say "Be Like Troy" who bought a few acres between Squaw and Alpine then built his own personal chair lift. It should be operational next season. Can you guess who my new best friend will be :-)

Route 66
Crazy Deep Powder on Day 66.
Steve is seen here wearing a huge smile and diving into some waist deep powder!

It's not every day you get chest deep powder in Tahoe. It was total comedy.

Making friends with the snowplow driver can make life much easier in snow country. Doing brake slides and donuts in a 38,000lbs Loader in a residential neighborhood can also be a ton of fun "from what I hear" :-)
